Tonight I went to see The Subways at the Empire in Middlesbrough, who were supported by Turbowolf and Royal Republic.

To start the night off, Turbowolf flew out with some good tempo songs, but as they are a heavier band than the headliners the few people that came early enough to catch them didn't really take. It's a shame as they performed a good set.

Royal Republic were the main support act, which the audience took to a lot more. Their just pure nonsense songs such as 'Full Steam Space Machine' easily won everybody over with their dance fullness and just the fact they're really catchy songs. Underwear was another song that people took to and sang along to. They had the stage banter of people that really were just having a good time which was also entertaining. They finished off their blistering set with 'Tommy Gun', a song that's just a great tune and really catchy. Again one that people loved as they could dance and jump around to while clapping and belting the song out. Great to see them welcomes so well.

Unfortunately I had to leave before the headline act, The Subways finished their set. But the songs I saw were took to greatly and performed really well. Charlotte was obviously the eye candy for the lads that came for the supports, but she can't half slap the bass. We Don't Need Money To Have A Good Time was a song that stood out for me as it was the one that the crowd seemed to enjoy the most. The singalong ability is a crowd pleaser. Rock'n'Roll Queen was another that went down well. The greatness of that song enables people to sing or go crazy to. Mary, a song written about his mother was another great one. That's when I had to leave, which was a great shame as it was one of the best gigs I have been to in a while. Every Band sounded excellent, which isn't always the case. Overall, a great gig that you should catch if possible.
