On clear nights I can't help but think of the astrophysicist, Fritz Houtermans. The night after he discovered the thermonuclear process necessary for the stability of the stars, he went on a walk with his girl friend. She looked up and : "Don't they shine so very beautifully?" "Yes" he replied, "And right now, I'm the only one who knows how." I'm not sure why, that just always seemed to me so very sad.
