The dim headlights of my truck make a narrow passage of light ahead of me. The road seems empty but knowing that it is not makes me anxious and my movements uncontrolled and jittery. What am I thinking, I should not be driving in this state. My left hand hovers above the handbrake as I consider turning back but I bring it back to the steering wheel. I would probably be putting myself in more danger by turning back.
'What have I got myself into this time?' I scream at the top of my lungs. I began to breathe heavily, and thump the dash board with my right hand. 'No! Calm down.' I tell Myself.
I reach down to the radio that is build into the truck and flick a red switch upwards in hopes that some music will calm my nerves. After a few seconds a static sound fills the trailer and I put my shaking hand on a dial. I keep one eye on the road while turning the dial clockwise. What was the station that Maxwell told me about? 132, 142, 152. There 152.
Music that was intertwined with the static sound began to pour out of the radio and I reclined slightly into my seat as I began to calm down. Sweet music, a rare thing in this day in age.
I travel a few more miles down the motorway when I am forced to come To a halt. Ahead of me lays an overturned car bathing in a pool of blood.
I begin to press down on the accelerator once more. I aim to push the reck aside with the beast I am driving. I come within a Meter of the overturned car when suddenly a small boy runs from behind it and comes to my door. 'Let me in! Please let me in!' he calls to me with a voice so loud I can hear it through the battered glass.
I wind down the window. 'Prove you are human.' I say. He goes to open his mouth when suddenly out of the darkness comes a wail that scares every flock of birds from the forest besides us. I opened the door to the truck immediately. 'get in!' I order. He climbs over me and into the drivers seat. He can only be six or seven years old.
I close the truck door and begin to drive into the wreckage. The screams still echo around us and the child besides me is now curled up into a ball. We begin to make progress when suddenly a bloody corpse is thrown across the windscreen. Guts begin to ooze out of the ravaged female body and her crippled and torn legs begin to bleed out.
I take my foot away from the accelerator and now focus my strength on reversing the truck. We begin to pick up speed and the body begins to disappear into the darkness. I stop the truck and look ahead onto the road. All is silent... And I don't like it.
