It's funny sometimes The things we can't bring ourselves to say And you only realize later When you tell yourself it wasn't supposed to be this way
When you lose something so special How is it fair You don't know why it couldn't have gone differently Why you couldn't have just reached out and grabbed what was there
You thought this time was different Convinced it would finally work But now you will never know And all those ugly demons will still lurk
Sometimes you mess up without even knowing And the hand you always thought you could hold Just isn't there So you walk home alone in the cold
There's no way to go back No way to say what would make it right So you watch what could have been you And just move on without a fight
