When I look deeply into your eyes
I can see and hear a thousand cries
I never ever meant to hurt you
When I said that we were through
There's a need in me, not being met
I've thought about this long, don't forget
I would never unnecessarily cause you pain
Drag us both through hell for a game
We are two different people now
Things just kind of changed somehow
I can't pinpoint that moment in time
And I know we've been rubbing along fine
But fine is just not enough anymore
There's a whole world out there I want to explore
Many sleepless nights I've had over this
Your friendship I will very much miss
If with one touch I could take it all away
Or erase your memory to keep the pain at bay
I hope in time you will know I was right
Being with someone for the wrong reasons is a fight
It takes too much strength and energy each day
To pretend that something's there that has gone away
Given space to breathe your pain shall subside
Behind curtains and under your duvet you won't have to hide
We gave us a shot but it wasn't enough in the end
Even though it may not ring true right now, I'll miss you dear friend
