I always wanted to be Anne with an E Wondering through the fields as Anne Shirley Getting from place to place by horse and carriage Imagining my life, maybe even marriage My home is serene, with a white picket fence Across the fields stands a wood, thick and dense I imagine myself having fun with my best friend Diana, a kindred spirit, on whom I can depend Avonlea is where my heart will always be Living at Green Gables so happy and free Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert loved me so With their love, there's no place like home Of course there is the charming Gilbert Blythe Annoying as he was, I happily let him into my life He is a tease but deep down he loves me so Although it took a while to let each other know As a child I often pretended to be Anne Play dancing in a field, holding Gil's hand Her story is one that touched me so deep Anne of Green Gables gave me memories to keep If you've not read the story, you really must do Will Anne Shirley have the same affect on you?
