Yesterday we went out for the day at Longleat
I'd never been before so unsure of what I'd greet
I'm not a fan of waiting in very long queues
Makes me inpatient and gives me the blues
The kids had fun on the things for them there
The train and boat rides, animals everywhere
But for me, take all that away and step back in time
Into a wonderful daydream I was taken by my mind
There I am on the steps of this Elizabethan home
Looking out at the 900 acres I am free to roam
It's enchanting and breathtaking to my eye
So much natural wildlife so very close by
There are courtyards with pretty little flowers
That are beautiful whether sunshine or showers
There are woods and forests everywhere you look
How I'd like to know them well, know every nook
I'm taken back to a time that is opulent and rich
My dress is decadent and grand with every stitch
A ruff of lace so extravagant around my neck
A dress of indigo taffeta with golden flecks
Dresses that are embroidered with silk
Enhance my skin tone like that of milk
My hose are made of the finest silk and yarn
I am the epitome of opulence and charm
My farthingale is of the finest giant cane
That enhances my curvy petite frame
White complexion of bright red lip and cheek
Into the grand Red Library I take a peep
Over 40,000 books sit there upon the shelves
I wonder what stories these books do tell?
What if I should see the ghosts of the past today
Like Elizabeth herself or the infamous Lady Grey?
This beautiful stately home and all of its history
Really took my breath away, it will stay with me
For it took me on a journey to a time of the past
A daydream of me as the Marquess of Bath
