It's, you know,
A strange feeling
We've waited for this
For so long
Everything affected by
This terrible paradox
Of pulling and pushing
Of mending the middle
And tearing at edges.
I waited for you
On a winter's day
Oh, so long ago
And you didn't come save me.
But that's okay-
In the end,
I didn't need you.
Together we formed a kite
Flying high, far above
Inspiring awe
But so detached
We couldn't even look down
Except to crash.
I've shouldered my burdens
Run away from many more
You're the one I can't escape
Not without turning around
And I cannot meet your eyes.
The calm before the storm
Eyes narrowed, almost closed
Jerky movements from
The puppeteer behind the curtain
Our strings so tangled
They must be cut.
Your manner, no more
My heart stopped beating long ago
The sky is not blue
But the shade of your eyes
Memories aren't roses
Instead, burning crystals-
Precious enough to keep
Yet they hurt so, so much
I let out my breath
Anticipation, over
Finally it's all broken,
My smiles won't be the same
But at least I still can.
