They thunder down the racetrack,
With a rider on their back,
How their hooves pound,
Heavy on hard ground,
To get here has taken so much care,
But, mighty bones will still wear,
Cyclic Repetitive Strain,
Over and over again,
Bone will bend and try to mend,
Tiny micro-cracks ascend,
Osteoclasts remove the damage,
But osteoblasts can't keep up to manage,
Over 3-4weeks at 40micro-meters a day,
That's increased porosity, I say,
With 90 days to mineralise,
Trainers just doesn't realise,
Now the bone has lost its strength,
Even though its same in length,
Remodelling bone,
Needs time to hone,
So speed every 4 days instead of galloping every 10,
And hopefully bone won't crack or need to mend.
Standing MRI would be ace,
My pocket it would thickly lace,
As the cause of 83% racing mortality,
Surly it's worth reducing the agony.
