It's interesting to reflect on who you are. Especially as I'm a firm believer that we change a little, or a lot sometimes, every day.

I think my sense of self is highly dynamic, an equilibrium of a hundred different factors. But I'll share with you a few constants.

I'm Nicola, most of my family and close friends call me Nix or Naaviie. Born 6th November, so naturally adore fireworks. There is just something about being wrapped up in a muddy field in front of a roaring fire, gazing at the explosions of colour in the sky...

I didn't have the best childhood (but it wasn't that bad), my parents were never meant to be together and waited too long to separate - in the end I was the one that told dad to leave. That was hard, but their divorce was perhaps the best thing to happen for me and my brother (even though he still has anger problems with the feeling of "betrayal"), now I actually have a mum and a dad. Though mum still suffers from depression, but she's getting better. My brother has suffered from dyspraxia due to hydrocephalus as a baby which also injured his pituitary gland... In short his has learning and social difficulties as well as some physical ones. But he is the best brother ever.

Dad's remarried now, so I now have two little half brothers. It's good to see him happy.

On the plus side, my childhood was full of amazing summers spent on the beach at my grandparents. I now hold a profound love for the ocean, it is a healing; an escape from difficulty; a problem solving entity.

I'm a third year veterinary student at the University of Liverpool, but it's my second degree (first was Animal Science). I'm driven by my ambition, I feel like this is what I was "meant" to do with my life. It is the most important thing to me at the moment.

My other passions (other than anything to do with animals) are film, photography, fantasy (dragons!), comedy, reading, writing, walking, archery and swimming.

Plus, I have an amazing new boyfriend, which is terrifying but great.

Like everyone, I've had some ups and downs in life. But I can safely say each year just keeps getting better.

I love life.
