The room was dark as I entered. The emergency lights had failed here. A shudder went through my body - I could hear the beast breathing in the shadows.
But this was my speciality, I knew every species in every Galaxy - and how to kill them.
I edged forwards, tuning my contacts to low-light levels, and there it stood.
Crouched down on six legs, tail raised for balance and a body cased in green armour. A Terq'noh! I briefly had time to wonder how the enemy had managed to capture one before it leapt at me.
I fell back to the ground with an angry cry - unleashing my knife from its sheath (guns would be no use here). The Terq'noh had me pinned under a leathery claw, its red, reptilian eyes bored down at me as a long forked tongue slipped out to sample my scent.
I took my chance - thrust the knife upwards between two plates of armour, between its ribs and into a great, beating heart. Yellow blood seeped out over my hand as the Terq'noh collapsed on top of me. Its last breath coming out in a long hiss.
I managed to squirm out from under the beast, feeling hundreds of new bruises on every inch of me. I stood for a moment, thinking of how wrong this all was - a Terq'noh? In a space station? They had not allied with the enemy, surely? We would have known.
It was a prisoner. Shit, I thought, what have I done?
This can only mean one thing - the Generals... I must report to the Captain! I sprinted onwards, encountering nothing more but darkness until suddenly I heard the explosions.
More grenades?! I ran around a corner and the walls opened out into a great hall - bullets and lasers whistled through the air. I heard Josh shout orders, "Get down!" I dropped. More grenades fired, not far from me, I hid my head in my arms as he heat washed over my skin. My hair crisped, but I was unharmed.
I looked up in disgust, the enemy was being mown down in droves. I saw The Captain's face raked in pain, something had cracked inside him. There was nothing I could do but watch.
I saw Alex, finally, and relief swept through me until I looked closer. His gun was at his side, face pale. Something was very wrong.
