I'm naturally open minded about most things, food (unfortunately) not being one of those. One thing in particular which has always intrigued me is the paranormal and the mystery surrounding the supernatural.
Like others, there was a hint of doubt and scepticism that accompanied the interest and fascination, but always one for trying new things, when the opportunity to visit a group of psychics, medians and fortune tellers arose, I was more than happy to go along and try out the experience.
Unlike my mum and aunt who both sought out medians in the hope of making contact with my late grandmother, I decided to chat to a somewhat well known astrologist who deals in numerology and star signs.
My mum is incredibly superstitious and is often rather pessimistic. For example, quite recently, through my sheer clumsiness and cluttered bed, a mirror I had been using earlier that day, had fallen from my clutches and landed onto my bedroom floor, causing a large crack to split the frame in two. My mum, who witnessed the act, immediately began to claim that I had inflicted 7 years bad luck upon the house. Ever the over extremist, she then grew cross and went off to bed in a huff.
I'm not exactly superstitious, but I do like reading horoscopes in the vain attempt to discover what my future has in store. If chance be it that the small reading has any subtle relation to my current position or situation in life, then I am always pleasantly thrilled at the thought of someone predicting something right.
Shuffling through the colourful tarot cards and laughing nervously as the second card drawn is "DEATH", the jovial man tells me this is not bad news as most people initially believe. However, I am already aware of this due to several movies/TV shows depicting similar scenarios. As luck would have it, it seems it will take more than a few splintered mirrors to rain on my parade.
According to my cards, I will always be blessed with good luck and be surrounded by decent folk. I have strong fortune and long heart lines, as well as only 1 marriage line (as opposed to others who tend to have 2 or 3). I will travel, have a good working career and will find my soul mate, a musical Aquarius whom I shall put up quite a fuss about, in the next year.
Jackpot! Well...not quite. Although a substantial amount is promised in my mum's future, providing she continues with her lottery and syndicates. Content with my positive reading, it would seem I should thank my lucky stars, however, I couldn't help feeling slightly disappointed and critical of the experience. It didn't feel personal to me, let alone believable. My mum winning the lottery. Me, somehow acquiring a car and learning to drive before the year is out! My brother, becoming famous for his exceptional intelligence. It all seemed a little...vague.
Yet, there was one surprise left in store. After delivering some insight into my nana's future, the man then went on to ask if she had another son besides from my dad. When I replied with the answer "No", a look of puzzlement crossed his face.
Now my nana, does happen to have another 'son', two years older than my dad, whom she gave up for adoption due to her being 16 at the time. She has always been completely open and honest with us all, and we have even met the man who came into contact with our family several years ago. However, few people are aware of this fact and I kept it hidden from my psychic, who was still convinced that there was something in the cards that I had randomly chosen, that suggested another son belonging to my nan.
Keeping a straight face, I thanked the man and casually (as can be for someone who has just been told that their life will turn out to be incredible) walked back to my seat to rejoin my family who were all eagerly anticipating my review.
As much as I loved hearing about my fantastic lifestyle which awaits me in the future, I was still dubious. However, that small but accurate detail regarding my nana soon planted a seed of possibility in my mind.
If one stranger can predict a fact like that and be correct, perhaps he can also be correct in saying what my future holds.
