Careless summer days, partying 'til dawn.
The lawn was freshly cut and we ran cartwheels in the sun.
Barefoot on the Tarmac, running reds through the dead of night.
No jackets, no coats, we were carefree and we travelled light.
We drank from the same cup and shared a fever through fall,
We didn't care, we didn't rest,
no Parents left to call us in from the cold.
We drank 'til we couldn't see
Then we drank some more.
We drank 'til we couldn't breathe
Coughing blood up on the floor.
Careless summer days
stuck in a summer haze
every sickness
ev'ry disease
water on my lungs,
left me on my knees
I didn't care, I didn't flinch
I wouldn't see past sixteen.
Barefoot on the dirt tracks
cleaning up a sex act
she will never remember.
Careless summer days
Leaving sickness in my veins
to have and to hold
A memory.
