Chapter one, part two.
" Took you long enough, I was about to fall asleep of boredom." He smiled playfully, I smiled back " I hope you packed your panties girly cause those boys are the type of people you don't want to come across twice." My smile vanished, I of all people know what those boys are capable of. Sam and I packed a small bag of bandages and medicine just in case Pawz was hurt. I was able to walk on m leg but Sam insisted that I use crutches, so before he left he gave me a pair he used when he broke his leg two years ago. " I told you, I'm fine, I walked up stairs and got myself dressed, I don't need those." I was lying to myself though, it was hell walking up those stairs, and getting myself dressed... But if those boys saw me with a broken leg they would use it against me. " Naomi, I realize you did those things but it will only get worse the more you use it. You got hit with a rock, then you fell from a tree onto the ground, only to find yourself chained to a wall being beaten with more rocks!" Your bone wasn't even in your leg when I found you Naomi." He looked defeated, like he knew I wouldn't listen but he'd try anyway. " Okay, yes, I understand." I picked up the crutches and placed them so that I could use them. Sam adjusted the height so that I could use them better, then we headed off. We walked to the hunting shed, they weren't there. Then to the park, not there either. We walked to some of there other hiding places they had taken me for a beating and no luck. Finally after four hours of looking we found her. She was tied to a rock near the river, if we would have waited another hour Pawz would be under the rising water. But, to no avail they were there too. Waiting for us. " Naomi untie Pawz and go okay, your not safe. Your hurt." Anger broiled inside me, " I'm not going to just leave you here with four guys alone!!!" It was almost night fall so there would be some pretty mean animals lurking around. I made a sharp high pitched whistle and right then a raccoon jumped out of the bushes and attacked the oldest of the bullies. " Sam hurry we can get away if we go now." Sam nodded and picked up Pawz tucking her in his coat. She was oddly silent which wasn't a good sign. I ran as fast as the damned crutches would take me, but we got away. Finally we got to Sam's house. I sat down on a couch in the basement the one were I woke up, I smiled at Pawz who was sleeping on my stomach. " She's going to be okay, trust me as far as I know you guys are the toughest people I have ever known." I laughed, " I wish! We would be dead if you didn't happen to stroll by... Speaking of which, why did you help me?" He looked shocked by the question. He sighed, " truth is Naomi, I single handedly take care of a four month old curse baby girl, and a seven year old girl. My sister doesn't barely know their names and my mom is hopped up on so many antidepressants that she doesn't know how to spell cat. Frankie the youngest was supposed to be named Frankenstein because my mom didn't like the fact that she was cursed. I begged the doctor to just put Frankie on the birth certificate. My mom doesn't know though, so she and Lilly, my older sister, still call he Frankenstein. But me and Joey call her Frankie. So now when I see someone who's cursed I have the gut instinct to protect them from anything that will hurt them. Just like I do with Frankie." He never made eye contact, he simply glued his eyes to a dust bunny on the floor. I smiled, " Sam, that's so sweet. I honestly don't think I've ever met someone who felt that way, especially a human... Um, no offense." He smiled " no, I understand. Hey um, I know I only have my learner a permit but, do you need a drive home?"
