19 January 2013
'Twas a day long to be remembered
A quiet town awoke to
noise
A roar, a bellow, a cry of
fury.
Flying feet, the swish of
hair
The whole town awoke.
Standing at their
windows
Only one was bold enough stepping away
She was a girl as young as
14
Boldly stepping past her
family
Who were saying their last farewells.
She turned and faced the
dragon
Red hair swishing looking
defiant
Beginning to talk to the
red dragon
Calmly she spoke; like to a scared
horse
But it was not to be.
The dragon fixed its fiery
eyes
On her periwinkle blue
dress
On her worn small
boots
On her face, trying to stay
calm
It roared and a bellow of fire flew from its mouth.
The girl ducked, barely
missing
The fire flew inches from her
face
The fire flew again but
the target was hit.
She hit the ground, crumpled
The villagers gasped and her family cried.
But there was
nothing they could do for the poor girl.
The brave girl.
The girl who caught
on fire.
