16 December 2012
The frosted grass cracked underfoot As winter took a hold on night The chilled air gave a heavy groan As shadows danced in the moonlight
You took my hand and I took yours Walking slowly, glove in glove Crunching on the frozen ground I looked at you, eyes full of love
You turned to me, your eyes so bright Twinkling like the shining stars But then you turned a ghostly pale No sound except the rushing cars
From your lips a whispered gasp As you collapsed onto the ground I put my ear against your chest Your heart made not a single sound
And as my fingers fumbled heavy Trying to press nine nine nine I wept over your body: prone For what seemed an eternal time.
The frosted grass cracks underfoot As they lower you into the grave Winter's taken hold of me The only season I can brave.
