Astronomers have detected ethyl formate in the vast dust clouds surrounding the center of the Milky Way. Ethyl formate is the chemical compound responsible for the flavor of raspberries and the smell of rum. The galactic core also contains enormous quantities of ethanol. In a strictly chemical sense, the center of our galaxy smells like raspberries.
