In 1838, Edgar Allan Poe published a novel in which shipwrecked survivors cannibalized a cabin boy named Richard Parker. In 1884, the crew of the real shipwrecked yacht Mignonette, adrift in the South Atlantic, killed and ate their cabin boy. His name was Richard Parker.
