In July 1807, Napoleon organised a rabbit hunt to celebrate the Treaty of Tilsit. Some 3,000 rabbits were assembled. When the cages opened, the animals did not flee: they charged Napoleon and his men in a mass, swarming toward them in search of food. They were farm rabbits, not wild ones. Napoleon was driven back to his carriage and forced to retreat.
