Olympus Mons on Mars is so vast that standing on its summit, you would not know you were on a mountain. Its base spans roughly 375 miles across and its flanks are so gradual that the curvature of Mars hides the edges below the horizon. The volcano is, in the most literal sense, too large to see from its own peak.
