On September 3, 1967, Sweden switched its entire road network from left-hand to right-hand traffic, overnight. Called Dagen H, the transition happened simultaneously across the country at 4:50 a.m. In the weeks after the switch, road accident rates dropped sharply. Drivers were paying careful attention to something they had always done automatically.
