The ancient Greeks had no word for the color blue. Homer describes the sea as 'wine-dark' and almost never names the sky by color. The word for blue appears later than words for black, white, red, and yellow in nearly every language ever studied, including ancient Chinese, Japanese, and Hebrew. The last color humans name is always blue.
