The glass stairs had dropped her into the airy foyer which was large enough to host the walking and cycling movement of 100,000 people, but it was only five o'clock, and having learnt from past civilizations the "The Kois" had ensured the running of the city was constant. Even from the small things like window cleaning and gardening, to the large things, like learning groups, classes and food production. She'd been quite fortunate to where hers had landed. She just wouldn't be able to bare it if she became one of the nocturnal people who were only awake at night. Luckily when the watchers took her tests they showed she was most alert and active during the day... which is the case for most people. It's human nature, but some show qualities of acclimatizing to the later work patterns.

All in all it meant the vast area was practically empty and she could take in the constantly changing breath taking views that the floating cities provided. Today would be one of the few days left to see the vast piece of green and gold land of the lost planes of the so fondly called the Equator Strip.

Maja longing gazed at it as if trying to burn it into her memory. Somehow in the months that follow it might be all of the sun she has left, and all the warmth she'll soon have. It won't be long till the jet stream that carried them here will soon push them off to the southern winter waste lands where they'll be a week's harbour to ensure that the year stays on track.

Finishing the long stairs, she came to a halt at the edge of the room. One entire wall was made of glass, the waves licked it leaving little beads of water which would change with every passing wave. It made her want to reach out and touch the glass, almost seamless some times it left as though she was walking on water. But the watchers would catch her if she touched the glass. It's not proper for anyone over the age of ten to touch it. She looked along the window walls curvature and found a small five year old boy, his hands pressed to the glass that protected him from being taken by the tide. Although his mother frowned, Maja smiled, she remembered being just as curious when she was his age.

Pulling herself away she walked towards the credential lifts and selected the thirteenth deck.
