Maja didn't want to wake up. She didn't want to know if it wasn't Richie. She didn't want to know... Pulling herself from her bed, she stalked out into the living area.
The nocturnal pod sharers had already retired to bed. Grace, Sam and Richie sat on the sofa. Grace sat between the two of them. Maja shouted over."Happy birthday Grace! You ready to start the rest of your life?" she asked, noticing them turn, and Richie s eye gleam with the memory of their kiss last night. She though back the urge to run over and hug him.
"As ready as ever." Graces smile seemed to make her face glow, she was truly beautiful. Hopefully Sam loves her, Maja thought, taking a seat beside Richie, who'd found a vest to wear between her visit and now. Somewhat thankful for it when she noticed Grace 's eyes lingering on his sculptured chest for a few seconds to long. Pangs of jealousy almost made Maja gasp allowed.
"So does anyone know how this works? What were meant to do?" She asked, forcing herself to look away from Grace and up to Sam and Richie. To her surprise, Sam knew.
"A professor in our social class explained once. We're each given an option, this will be taken into consideration, but may not be the final result of the test. Today we'll each take a comparability test, and cast our choice. Who will be our fated. Tonight we'll get our results, and our work assignments." He stated.
Maja noticed that every time he mentioned "choice" or "option" he looked her way. Instead of feeling envy, she just felt pure guilty. Sam continued.
"Tests can be taken at any point today, options must be confidential. If any watcher hears any discussion, or thinks one may have gone on, they'll be allowed to strike their option from the record, or worse." Sam stood, "I'm going to go get mine over with. Maybe the fast we all do it, the quicker we'll get our results back." Nodding in agreement. They all followed his train of thought and returned to their rooms.
Maja sat on her bed, and noticed the scene through her window. It was just empty, lifeless. A bubble of fear rose and popped in her throat. What if this was all she'll ever see? The vast empty deep that was the ocean, or the almost empty skies?
Sighing, she clapped twice, and there as if it was a simple option, on the menu, The Fate Test. Or more commonly known as the TFT. Maja breathed deeply and began changing her life one click at a time. Hoping each one would at least take her one step closer to a life with Richie, with colourful Jellyfish....
