Sat around on the sofa the four of them discussed the coming days next few events. Grace was turning eighteen, and as she was the youngest of the four of them, their Pod can finally discover who was who's fated, and what job assignments they'd get as their new pair. This not only meant a new partner, new job and new responsibilities. It meant a new life, they'll all be reassigned new pods. Possibly family ones depending upon the jobs that could be chosen for them.
"Guys, we're being assigned our lives in the next few days..." Maja said barely above a whisper. But they all heard. They all knew. She could tell that a hollow feeling emptied them all, and a worried feeling would soon fill the empty space. Even in the year 2998, there was no cure fir fear.
Maja couldn't sleep. She wanted to live every moment of her teen years that her had left. But, she knew it was pointless... the rest of her Pod would be asleep, and they'd be the only people she'd want to spend the time with.
Swinging over to face the other side of her bed, she was greeted by a beautiful view. A smack of glowing jellyfish lit up the dark waters. Mesmerized it was like watching a million colourful, bright, glowing balloons balloons flirting with the dark night sky.
Sighing, closing her eyes, the glow was just enough to invade her eyelids. A quite tap at the door pulled her away from the mesmerizing scene.
Padding over, Richie stood leaning over her door frame. Topless, he showed off his worked on torso. Maja blushed.
"Couldn't sleep." He stated, before picking her up easily, and carried her to the edge of her bed. His bodies warmth seeped through her clothing, and she could still feel his heat even once he'd let her go and sat her on the edge if her double bed, to face the amazing scene. Beside her he stretched out. His toned limbs seemed longer than she remembered.
"You're worried about who you'll get tomorrow." He whispered, she wasn't sure if it was a statement or a question. "A little. I mean, you're both great, I should count myself lucky...But" she trailed, unsure of what she wanted to say. Richie's eyes seemed to shine with understanding.
"But you'll always prefer one more than the other, and what if they feel the same. I've been thinking the same. I guess I already chose who'd I'd rather be with. I hadn't realised it until now for definite." His voice never cracked, his words seemed to stand strong out in the open.
"Oh?" Maja tried to flatten the hope in her eyes. Richie shot her a look and a honest smile. "I didn't even have too think about, I can't sleep and I want to talk to you... I see this amazing scene, and I want to share it with you, I see the rest of my life laid out for me... and I hope that it's with you." Maja just stared at him for a moment. Both looking deep into each others eyes, drowning in desire to just... declare everything. Realistically, they both knew, it might just cause more pain.
"So, who does Sam prefer?" Maja asked. Pulling her eyes away, almost wanting to kill herself for causing the flicker of pain in his eyes.
Richie sighed. "It's always been you." He stared down at the floor. "I hadn't really realised it until I asked for a swap. If things turned out the wrong way, I'd pretend to be him, he could be me. He didn't go for it." Before Maja had time to think what she was doing, she was rubbing his arm to comfort him, and hoping he'd look up. Before their eyes even had a chance to meet, she sealed his lips with hers. Putting her hands around his neck, he pulled her on to his lap. Pulling away before anything further could happen, she stared at his face. Blue eyes, dark hair, strong bone structure, this guy was perfect for her... She couldn't imagine life without him, but she knew she had too. What if...
