The small cylinder lift whizzed past the deck numbers, become slower, and finally halting on her deck. Stepping out into the cool, pure area, Maja inhaled. It smelt like home.
Each deck played host to five hundred pods, and each pod contained eight people she mapped out in her head the floor plan of the city. Walking along the curved corridor that circled the thirteenth deck, she dragged her had against the blank side of the wall, before stopping abruptly and turning towards the plain frosted glass door, and placed her fingerprint for identification on the small sensor pad parallel to the handle. The door shone green to signal that she could enter.
The cold steely handle reflected what laid beyond the door. Like all other pods, it was moderately furnished. All cream and silver furnishings, all minimal... all perfect. The only aspect of the room that had character was the glass wall of the living area that looked out into the deep. She liked it mostly, except the times when you'd see the predator get the prey, they were few and far between, yet horrific enough to stay with you every time you entered a pod. But at this moment, it's was just a sheer sapphire blue, which made the entire room glow with the colour of the sky.
Hanging her bag on her designated hook, she was surprised to see so many of the hooks inhabited. Naturally four should be hanging there, but she'd have thought three would have still been missing. Peeking around the corner that nestled the kitchen space and found two of her Pod sipping and quietly discussing.
"Well if it isn't Maja!" Richie, the slightly taller of the two males said, his face displaying a mischievous grin. "What is it you want now, Richie?" She looked at both of them noting that Sam was also wearing the same smile. Forcing her to add "and Sam." "Well, as you so kindly asked, Sam and I would like to ask you a very important question. And we expect a very serious answer." Richie said, making Sam worriedly look away. "If you had to choose between us. You know... to be fated with for the rest of your life, which would it be?" Richie asked, the grin on his face growing. Maja stared blankly at the handsome identical twins. "Sam, hands down, every time. He's clearly the better looking." Chuckling as she grabbed an apple, she didn't have to look over at Richie's face to know it'd be one of shock and of dismay. But she shot him a knowing glance and a wink before disappearing into her room to do a little relaxing before another day reared its head, and they'd be a step closer to winter.
