She laid on the soft black sheets and duvet of her double bed and stretched. Rolling over and clapping twice, the glass wall that looked out onto the ocean shimmered, before a pixel like protection appeared. The news beamed out, almost the entire wall had turned into a screen.
Sitting up and biting into an apple she watched intensely. The news reported on the entire world's population. Not just those that was on The Koi City, but those that floated on all of the world's waters. Finishing her apple she stretched some more until a news report caught her ears, and turned her eyes. "Three citizens of The Carp city have been reported missing after all three failed to sign in for an entire day. The entire city has been put on red alert after a savage party was spotted near the Equator Strip. All cities The Carp, The Koi, The Pike and The Bass have been put on alert, and should only harbour if needed." Maja was a little shocked to hear it, but it did happen. Cities needed to harbour for a number of reasons, maintenance, storage... She was trying to think of a third when she fell asleep.
Jolting awake, the first thing she noticed was how light it still was, the second was the abrupt taps at the door. Groaning loudly, she hoped it was loud enough to who ever in her Pod was knocking. Grace bounced in. "Dinners ready. I cooked, so... You know, at least it's edible." Laughing, the small wide eyed girl, blonde girl left, leaving the door open. Maja joined them for dinner eventually.
Richie, Sam and Grace sat at on end of the table. The nocturnal Pod members at the other, eating breakfast, and bursting with their new found energy. Largely, the nocturnal people kept to themselves. It was hard to create friendships with people who live different lives. Although they may all share a Pod, the only time they crossed paths was at dinner and breakfast, and one half were too tired to make small talk with the other, and would they even understand? Things are different at night, more relaxed, more flexible. Maja almost wished she was nocturnal because of it. But, she loved the sun too much to trade it in for the moon.
Talk at their end of the table soon turned to whom will be chosen for whom. It's not like they'd have 200,000 people to ask from, four girls and four boys shared a Pod, two of each we nocturnal. That left the option if who you're fated would be down the the two that were left. Honestly a part of Maja were glad Richie and Sam were identical, otherwise her head and heart may be fighting. At least this way, she'd end up spending the rest of her life with a good looking guy. The real question was, which boy prefer who. Grace was of average height, slim build and extremely pretty, sure... She lacked some favourable characteristics, she wasn't good at cooking, she couldn't handle stress, and worst of all was her constant cheerfulness. Maja, on the other hand, was the opposite. She was short, dark brown curly hair, pale skin and big green eyes. She was just... average. But the question had to be asked, even if it was just sarcastically to get back at them for earlier.
"Sam, Richie. I have a very serious question for you both. Don't laugh, I expect a very serious answer. If you had to choose between Grace and myself to be fated too. Who would you choose?" Maja asked the, ending whatever conversation she'd missed with her mind babble.
