Chapter 5
The rest of the day, the sombre atmosphere hung in the thick hot air. It was always dry when the harvest happened. She signed, noting the matching patterns, knowing it was obviously where the name had come from... The life cycle. She wondered what it was called in other places.
Grey had insisted on staying with her. So she decided it was best to stay in his workshop. At least until dark, then she'd be off, back to her mine. Snoozing on the carved wooden bench near the furnace, she felt comfortable enough to fall asleep, listening too the heavy hammer and embers Grey was using to mould her Lacedonium into a incredible thick chain. Tonight would be the night she looked for a stone to go onto that necklace... Then the mission would begin. Finding a caster willing enough to help both her and Grey out. If they blessed the stone or enchanted it maybe, it would be worth a lot... So in just a few months work, all parties involved could be safe for the year. They just needed to plant the sugartonge tree, and soon they'd be flooding. Or so she hoped.
Jumping up startled from a unfamiliar loud sound, she began scanning the workshop with her eyes. Before they settled on the source of the commotion. Stood in the doorway was a adorable young girl. Eyes as large as candles but shining twice as bright. Her hair was long and the colour of the hot embers in the furnace, casters were always beautiful. Always colourful and slightly spellbinding. Clearly this must have been the girl Grey had told her about. Bouncing stealthily underneath the work top, she wound her way closer remaining unseen. Soon she found herself within arms reach of the girls leg, and fighting the urge to grab it and scare her.
The girl liked Grey, what sane girl wouldn't? His hair a short fluffy brown, soft welcoming blue eyes, small chin dimple, and high cheekbones to compliment his fit physic. Naturally. Any girl would be blushing like she was at the thought. Eavesdropping on their simple but polite conversation, Grey knew this had to be the girl. "Umm, so what's the metal you used to create the knocker? Daddy said he wanted Hildon to be used." the girls tongue never tied... Ammy was almost a little jealous that she could articulate so well in front of such a boy.
"Of course, it's only natural for him to want keep so a beautiful daughter safe. I trust you know the capabilities of Hildon?" Grey unraveled a ornate knocker, the shine flashed with a purple like glow although the metal itself was a matt silver in colour.
When the girl looked down, Grey pulled out his irresistible move. Placing his thumb lightly below her lips, and gently pulling her face up with the rest of his hand, he looked her in the eyes. "A Hildon knocker will keep all those that wish to harm you from entering your door. I think it's best you take this right on over to your home. Your father may have a lot of gentleman callers wishing to make acquaintance with such a..." he brushed her lips slightly with his thumb, and placed the knocker into her open shaking hands. "beautiful little lady." he removed his hands and before the girl had much realisation as to what had just happened before her. Grey appeared in the small hiding place next to her.
Killing the thoughts to slap him for making her jealous, she acted as though what she saw before her meant nothing. Shock consumed her, as Greys face told her he wanted that jealousy to be there.
