As soon as the black taxi, with only one working light, had driven past me I crossed the road on to Andy's drive. There were no cars parked but with Andy this didn't mean anything. His parents were always out on business meetings and they always left him to do as he pleased. I knocked on the red wooden door. "Hello?" he said from the other side of the door "Carm is that you?" "Who else?" I chuckled back. "I'll be out in a sec, if you come in… well actually you can't, dads ordered tons of stuff off line and our house is trashed" I heard Andy pull on his boots and unlock the door. He was dressed in jeans and a dark blue hoddie jumper. His skin was tanned and his dark brown hair seemed a lighter shade. "Where have you been?" I asked looking him up and down "Florida…" as I was about say 'how lucky' he put his finger to my lips "business trip, wasn't aloud to do anything fun!" I rolled my eyes. "Where do ya wanna go?" "Get a milkshake somewhere…" Andy suggested. I nodded. We walked along the street and down a few alleyways, while I told Andy everything I had done during half-term. Everything apart from becoming a Phoenix. As soon as I had finished explaining about what had happened to Beth at the market, I looked awkwardly at the ground. "Carm, what? What is it?" Andy asked taking my shoulders. I could feel his eyes watching "What are you not telling me?" "S'nothing…" I lied. I looked up at him, trying to fill my eyes with innocence. It was hopeless "let's go in for a milkshake." I pushed open the cafe door, going straight to the counter ordering two banana shakes. Then without a glance at Andy I sat at a table. I fiddled with the edge of the tablecloth. As I heard him sit down, I looked up. "What's going on?" he asked taking my hands in his "I'm your best friend, you can tell me anything, right?" I shook my head, my throat was dry and I felt guilty "Not this time," I whispered "I don't think I'm allowed." "'Think'? What does that mean?" Andy said getting agitated "Well they haven't said I'm not allowed but I'm probably not." "Who's they? Carmine! What is going on?!" Andy yelled but not loud enough for everyone to hear "Look Andy you have no idea about how much I want to tell you but," I began moving my hands away "I need to ask…" I trailed not saying their names as that would only lead to more questions "Ask what?!" Andy stood up violently "Carm it's not hard you either tell me or just forget about it and move on, simple!" "It's not, Andy, I can't runaway from it, I'm stuck like this forever." I replied frustrated that Andy didn't get it. "You know what, you've changed for the worse, I don't understand why you can't tell me? So much for telling everything to each other… it's over." before I could counter back, Andy had already stormed out the cafe. I was left there, sitting alone. I cancelled the order and ran out. I ran out of town and ran up the drive of Andy's house. There was no one there. I peered through the windows but I saw no movement. I jogged round the back of the house and saw that Andy's bedroom window was open. I stood still. My eyes closed, tensing my muscles. The ground soon disappeared and I opened my eyes. I grabbed the wall and climbed through the window. "I can fly, I don't remember them mentioning that!" I said astounded. There was a note on Andy's drawer: Dear mum and dad I've left but don't fret I'm just taking care of some business I shall return Love Andy xx

I was surprised there was nothing mentioning me. But then I noticed a separate note underneath: Carm I don't know what to say Don't know what to write You might see me around but it would be by accident but my fault as I would be there on purpose. From you know who
