I gulped. As I stepped back, he stepped forward. I moved quickly backwards until my escape was blocked by a tree branch. I grabbed the branch with both hands and with a deep breath I fell backwards landing the other side. I ran. Left. Right. North. South. I knew the wolf would out run me but I could at least have a head start. His paws pounded against the ground in time with my feet. A sudden thought popped into my head. 'Stop running' I ignored it and reached up with my arm towards a branch. I grabbed onto it and swung round gently with my feet landing on the tree. 'Get down' a message in my head said This time I couldn't ignore it. I lowered myself until it was a small enough jump for me to make. I straightened my coat and flicked my hair. I was now staring into a pair of innocent eyes. The darkest pair of brown eyes I had ever seen. 'Follow me' said a thought popping into my head. For a strange reason I didn't feel intimidated by the huge grey beast standing in front of me. The wolf walked towards me. His head touched my hand. The grey, gentle fur, caressed through my fingers. I felt the wolf had move away from the side of my body and I watched him disappearinto the darkness. The sun startled my eyes making them close quickly. I could feel my hands and feet burn, they felt so hot but I found it bearable. I opened my eyes and I could no longer see the darkness or the wolf. A stick snapped. My head shot round. A tall, handsome boy, was leaning against the tree I had just climbed. His ruffled brown hair shone in the glow of the sunlight, casting a tint of gold. "Sorry," he said apologetically "I didn't mean to scare you." "You didn't," I said quickly "who are you?" "Ricky." he smiles and walks a little closer. I smile nervously back. "I'm not sure I want to tell you who I am…" I said biting my lip "Don't worry, I already know." "Oh you do, do you?" I replied with shock in my voice "Carmine, you're a lot different from everyone else… have you ever noticed how your eyes sometimes seem red or your hair appears auburn?" I nodded, pulling my fingers through my hair. "Your name means crimson. Carmine you're a pheonix!"
As soon as he said it, the word rang through my head a long while after. Phoenixes don't exist. They can't. 'This guy must be having a laugh!' I thought to myself "I'm a what?!" I shouted. My body was burning up. My hands, my feet, my cheeks felt as hot as an open fire, yet it was all bearable. "A pheonix." Ricky said again. I collapsed to the ground. "Oh. They really exist, huh? And what about you, are you a pheonix as well?" "Uh, no," Ricky said doubtly "I'm a wolf."
