Chapter 7: Violet I grabbed a pen and using the paper next to me, I wrote a note: Gone out to get wood. Be a long time but carry on with lunch. Carmine x

I placed it on the tv remote, knowing Ryan will see it. I pulled on my shoes and reached for my coat. I closed the door behind me and ran across the field and skidded down the hill. The grey clouds above gave a warning of rain. I rushed under the protection of the trees pulling my hood up as I did. I jogged down a path and climbed over a fence. The first time I had come this way, I hadn't noticed all the bright flowers or the strong smell of wild garlic, as I was being chased by a wolf. Once I had reached where I had met Ricky before, I climbed the near by tree and looked for movement. I heard quiet breathing coming from above me. My eyes went up and Ricky was lying on the branch above. He smiled and jumped off, landing without a sound on the ground. I did the same but not quite landing with the same elegance. "What more do you need to explain?" I asked, remembering our last conversation. "Not much, just the usual…" he replied smiling "stuff like, you can fly, do things with fire." "I can! How?" "It takes practice, you need to concentrate, but don't worry I have the perfect person to teach you." Ricky put his arm around my shoulder and led me down a narrow slope. "Can I stop fires?" I asked as we both ducked under a low hanging branch Ricky shook his head. "As far as we know, phoenixes can't, but they can walk through it and not get burnt." "We?" "There's a lot more of us," Ricky replied "it's like our own gang." "Is there more of me?" "A few but," he paused and stood still "phoenixes are rare, either that or hard to find." I turned to face him. Ricky's mouth opened in delight, but he wasn't looking at me. "I've been looking for you everywhere and believe me, your not usually that hard to find." this voice was smooth and I didn't familiarise with it. Why would I? "Violet!" Ricky ran past me and as I followed him, I saw a girl with the longest blonde hair I had ever seen. Her eyes were pure sky blue and her lips were peach coloured. She was dressed in a long dress with purple jewel covered shoulder straps. "You must be Carmine, am I right?"she said walking gracefully towards me with a little harshness in her voice. "Yeah, you're Violet." I guessedl She smiled triumphantly "You heard a lot about me then?" "No, just your name." Violet then turned to face Ricky who was leaning impatiently against a wooden fence. "What do you want me to do then?" she asked. He looked up. "Teach her." "But I'm an angel not a stu… not a Phoenix." she argued "I know that but Robyn and Serena are away, Sam won't because he won't and all the others have their reasons," Ricky relied stepping forward "and you're the next one that knows the most about them, so…" Violet sighed knowing her defeat. She thought for a moment. "Why can't you do it? You know a lot about them…" she smirked placing her hand on one hip. "Yeah… well… th-that's…" Ricky stuttered for a come back "that's a point." "Why don't you both teach me?" I suggested loudly "I'm sure you both know different things that the other can't teach, that way I'll be more experienced…" I looked at them waiting longingly for an answer. Ricky shrugged. "She's gotta point." "Fine." Violet groaned
