Part 2 *•*•*•*•
"Land ahead, captain!" A sailor shouted "Full speed ahead, men!" The captain replied with a pipe in his hand "Captain?" I asked, he nodded at me "where are we going? You said it would be cold, why?" "Ever heard of PolarRaw island?" He looked seriously at me. I shook head "No." "It's temperature drops down to minus forty but it has the most resources, that we need," he breathed out a puff of smoke as he paused "we wouldn't go unless we were desperate and we are but we'll be going around the island in groups make sure you stick to your group as there are deadly polar bears and who knows if 'they' have been there…" A sudden jerk of the ship stopping threw me forward. "Who are 'they'?" I asked not expecting him to know "Ask Greptim, the sailor on the mast, he claims he was once captured but he escaped." I looked up to find a man tying some rope around the mast. He jumped down and smiled at me. "Yeah, I know who they are, seen them myself I have." He said walking away to tightened the rope on the right side. "Who are they then?" I asked tired of asking the same question over and over "They're a group of deadly sailors with animals as crew members," he paused and looked at me "the animals are kept locked up and only let out to be fed when the sailors reach an island, unfortunately they landed on our island and left some of the animals behind." "What kind of animals?" Callum asked who was standing on the other side of Greptim "Er… wolves, hyenas, leopards," Greptim said "anything they can get their hands on, if you get caught by the sailors your consider luckier than getting caught by the animals as they don't spare lives…" "Crew, stay in your groups cause anyone left behind, stays behind!" The captain shouted. I looked up to see grey clouds covering the sky. A bitter cold wind blew my black hair and made me shiver. I followed Greptim off the ship and through the water. The icy water stung my legs and I could feel them turning blue. When I reached the land I walked close to Greptim and another sailor called JasJack.
As we walked deeper into the woods I started to feel like we were being followed. The frost numbed my feet making it impossible for me to walk. "S-stay… close…" JasJack stuttered "wh-what's… what's your name?" "Emilia." I managed to whisper. A high pitched whine, echoed through the trees just as a bitter wind blew me back. I stopped in my tracks. "R-run! Their on the island!" Greptim ordered. I forced myself through the coldness and ran as fast as I could. We turned left and then right. Through the trees. Through the darkness. I stopped in my tracks and hid behind a tree. Greptim and JasJack did the same. A wolf was lying in the middle of a clearing. I heard heavy breathing and then no sound. I slowly turned my head around to see that the wolf was still on the floor. As I moved my foot I saw his ears go up, but he didn't move. "It's a trap!" JasJack hissed. I shook my head "No," I mouthed "he's hurt and has been for a while, he was obviously left behind and then the sailors came back after seeing our ship!" I took another step and the wolf still didn't move. I slowly walked over to it. His fur was matted with blood. I carefully placed my hand on his stomach. His whole body flinched and the wolf gave out a quiet whine. "He-help me carry him wi-will you?" I said, JasJack shook his head "Greptim?"
We carefully picked the wolf up and managed to carry him out of the clearing. The warmth of the wolf's fur made it easier to carry as I could finally feel my fingers. Just as we could see the boat, JasJack stopped. "What is it?" I asked. "Ssh!" He hissed "the sailors." I looked through the trees and saw a bunch of sailors standing around the shore. Their faces were hidden by masks. "If we go back round through the trees and out the other side, we'll be able to reach the ship without them knowing." Greptim stated. We headed through the trees quietly but quickly. "Greptim!" I whispered "Greptim I'm losing grip, it's too cold and the wolf is just too heavy." "We're nearly there just hold on!"
Once we were behind the ship and out of sight of the sailors, we carefully climbed up the side of the boat. The wolf was heavy but not very big, so Greptim heaved him up onto deck. The captain was waiting impatiently on deck. "Where have you…" he stopped when he saw the wolf "what on earth do you think your doing? He could kill us! He's one of them!" "No! He's hurt… he's harmless." I reassured him. Greptim laid him on the floor. He was breathing by only just. "Get me some… cloth and rope. Quickly!" I ordered. My father had always wanted me to follow his footsteps and become a doctor. So before he died, he taught me everything he knew. I wrapped the cloth around the wolfs front leg and stomach. I cleaned his fur from the blood and watched him sleep. We took him below deck and he slept under my hammock.
"That was really brave of you." Callum said as we both lay wide awake. "Thank you." I blushed "No I really mean it…" I placed my finger over my lips. I could hear voices close by. The wolfs ears pricked up but he didn't make a sound. I could then hear footsteps walking on wood. "Captain? Greptim? JasJack?" I whispered They all sat up immediately. "The sailors! They're on the ship!"
