Part 4 *•*•*•*•
That night, I couldn't sleep. I kept wondering whether Greptim would make it through the night, with the weather being as cold as it is. I turned over and let my hand fall onto the wolfs back. He sighed heavily and then looked up at me. His golden amber eyes stared deep into mine, when a sudden cough, made him jump up. "Greptim?" I said, slowly sitting up. I nudged Callum but he didn't stir. I followed the wolf up on deck, to look around. As I stayed close by the wolfs side, I heard another cough. A figure was standing at the side of the ship. I walked quietly over. "Callum? What are you dong here?" I asked gently "Couldn't sleep." He said plainly not turning to look at me. "But you'll catch a cold…" I said Callum didn't say anything, only stared at the still sea. The wolf stretched and lay down on the hard floor. "So… how did you come to be on this ship?" I asked, sitting down with my back against the side of the ship. Callum did the same, using his coat as a blanket to cover us. "I wanted to do something exciting, life at home was boring," Callum paused "nothing ever happened and then this ship came along and I hitched a lift and went travelling." I smiled, resting my head on his shoulder. His arm wrapped around me pulling me closer under the blanket.
"Eggs! Get your eggs here! Eggs! Two shillings each!" I covered my eyes from the bright sun. I yawned and stood up. Where was I? "Callum, wake up." I nudged him. He groaned but stood up stretching. "Where are we?" I asked "We're in town!" Callum exclaimed "We're what?!" I asked shocked "We're in town, London." Captain said placing his hand on my shoulder.
I followed the crew closely, as we walked through the busy streets. I looked around at all the people rushing from place to place and the markets full of fruit. "Come on, Emilia!" I heard a voice of the crew shout. As I looked up, I kept walking, knocking a boy over who was carrying a basket full of apples. "Oh I'm so sorry," I apologised picking up the basket and a few of the apples "I'm so sorry let me help you." "No it's fi…" he trailed off as our eyes met "Emilia we don't have time!" JasJack shouted grabbing my arm and pulling me up "No wait!" I screamed trying to pull myself away "you don't understand! It's… it's Alex!" I shrieked and kicked but JasJack held me tightly as he lifted me further and further away. "Alex!" I screamed in tears. JasJack put me down, I was now too far for me to see Alex. I threw myself into Callum's arms. I sobbed like a baby knowing I blew my chance to see Alex again. I glared at JasJack even though he couldn't see it. We walked further until we were outside a white building, with the words 'Hospital' on the wall. The whole crew walked inside but I didn't. I didn't want to. I stood outside against the wall. "Not coming in?" Callum asked with a sympathetic smile. I shook my head. I could feel the tears creeping into my eyes and the lump in my throat. "It was Alex! It was Alex, Callum!" I shouted "and now he's gone." "Hey," Callum lifted up my chin so I had no choice but to stare into his eyes "it'll be okay… if we go now, he could still be there." "No," I shook head "why would he? He seemed in a rush." "This is you were talking about, he saw you, correct?" I nodded "well then let's go see if he's still there!" He took my hand and we ran back through the crowd. Just going out of the harbour was a ship. "Emilia!" A voice called making me turn towards the ship. I ran onto the ledge. "Alex… I-I…" I stuttered for words my mouth dry, but the ship kept sailing further away. Callum's gentle hand touched my shoulder. He didn't say anything, just stared. The towns people blurred out of our minds, as we stood as still as stone.
