We both stepped out of the old-fashioned elevator at the same time, it was one of the ones where you didn't have a door only a metal grate to pull across. We jerked away as it slowly rumbled back to the ground floor. We stood staring at a long narrow hallway, which had multiple doors on either side. Some doors had doormats, which gave you a small insight into the person that inhabited the apartment. One was a cheery French flag, another was a pair of pink high heels and my personal favorite was a cartoon of two sausage dogs kissing, one in a striped blue and white top with a black beret and mustache, and the other wearing a pink tutu and tiara. 'I didn't know the French were so into their doormats!' Olivia chuckled as we dragged our suitcases slowly past each one. We finally reached our door numbers and both excitedly tried to place the key in the lock. We hadn't realized when we'd rented the apartments, but ours were opposite each other. 'night liv, see you in the morning' I said as I quickly ran around switching on all the lights and illuminating my small apartment. There was a medium sized room which served as the living and dining room and then straight ahead, slightly to the left, there was a large open doorway leading to a small bedroom, straight ahead to the right was a small but cosy kitchen, which I was sure if I tried I would be able to touch both ends at the same time if I really stretched out my arms! There was a small well equipped bathroom leading off from the bedroom, which I was happy to say had a rather new looking shower. The walls in the bedroom and living room were both painted a very pale mint green and were both decorated in traditional French chic, with a beautiful antique head board for the bed and a lovely old coffee table. I sighed happily and sunk down onto the small grey suede sofa, I looked around at the place that I would be calling home for the next few weeks and smiled to myself knowing that I had finally found the place that I truly belonged.
