I walked slowly to the hospital, it was still early in the morning and there was a bite to the air, but the sun was shining softly through the slight mist and I could tell that it was going to be a beautiful winters day.
When I found Lucy's room, I looked in and saw Tom sleeping in a sitting position beside Lucy. She too was asleep sitting up and had her head resting on his shoulder with his gently resting on top of hers. Her expression was peaceful, but her face was blotchy from crying. I crept in as quietly as I could and sat on the chair opposite her bed. While I waited for them to wake up, I had time to think about the coming events. Christmas was fast approaching along with the annual winter ball, were all members of the military flew to the chosen hotel which was rented out for three days for the ball. I hadn't yet chosen my dress and was hoping to have done so with Lucy, but I wasn't sure if she was up for it.
I heard the bed creak and looked up to see Lucy rubbing her eyes and yawning, waking Tom up in the process. Tom, seeing me decided to give us some time alone and crept out of the room.
'how are you feeling?' I asked as I crossed the room to sit next to her.
'surprisingly, I feel much calmer, I'm still upset about what happened, but maybe it happened for a reason. At least next time the baby will be planned and be with someone I love.' she said smiling sadly. 'oh and also about what I said last night, I'm sorry.'
'Lucy don't worry about it, I understand. Also the doctor said that you can come home today, if you are ready.' I told her. 'phew, this place holds too many bad memories and you're right, now I do now how much I miss my own bed.' she giggled, I was pleasantly surprised that she was in such good spirits, but then she had only been one month pregnant.
'oh and I almost forgot,' she announced 'we still have to get you a dress.'
