Adam and I kept trying for a baby, two months had passed since we had visited the doctor when it happened. Adam crashed through the door with a stony expression on his face, I leapt up from where I was sitting. 'Adam what's wrong, what's happened.' I cried growing increasingly worried by his silence. 'Adam speak to me.' I begged. 'I have to go on a mission.' he growled. 'that's ok Adam, we knew we'd be called out at some point.' I said confused. 'yeah except it's for two months, I don't want to leave you for that long.' he mumbled. I felt weak at the knees, I felt sick with worry because the longer he goes the more danger he will be put in. Also it meant we would miss two chances to try and have a baby. 'when do you go.' I whispered, close to tears. 'tomorrow.' he sighed. I strode out of the room closely followed by Adam, I burst into my commanders office, she looked up and shot me an unimpressed look. 'I volunteer to go on the mission that leaves tomorrow.' I announced. 'no' Adam and my commander said at the same time, she shot Adam a look that told him to keep quiet. 'I'm sorry but this mission is dangerous and I can only sent men, as they are stronger and have more stamina.' she said bluntly 'also we can't send you due to your relationship with Adam, you could do something stupid to save one another that would put the team and the mission in jeopardy, now I am very busy.' she said signaling for us to leave. I trailed home with my head hanging low, Adam caught up and took my hand. 'Abby I'll be fine' he said but I could hear the doubt in his voice. That night I cried myself silently to sleep, I was so worried about what the next two months might bring. I awoke to Adam gently shaking my shoulder. 'Abby...Abby it's time to get up.' he said quietly. I leaped up into his arms he hugged me so tightly that it stole my breath. We both had tears rolling down our faces, just as we were about to leave my phone beeped. This time it was me who looked at Adam. 'I can't Abby, we are already late.' he said looking at the door, I looked down at the floor and my shoulders sagged. I pushed past him to open the door, when he pulled me back to him and whispered, 'you didn't really think I would choose them over you did you.' I smiled and tilted my head upwards to kiss him. We ran to the helipad, and our commander glared at us. Adam ignored her and cupped my face in his hands 'I love you Abby, don't ever forget that.' I nodded through my tears. I mouthed 'I love you.' to him as helicopter engine started. As he walked away I felt as though I might collapse, Lucy walked up behind me and wrapped her arm around my waist to stop me falling, 'he'll be fine Abby...he always is.'
