Love And War Chpt.58

I phoned Lucy as soon as we got back and told her to come over. I showed her photos of the house and rooms. She commented politely, but I noticed a sad edge to her voice. 'Lucy what's wrong?' I asked. 'nothing...'she trailed off, but then I shot her a look which made her confess, 'it's just...I feel like while your life is taking off while mine is just stuck in a rut.'
'that's not true Lucy.' I cooed. 'it is Abby, your married, expecting a baby and have bought a house. Next thing you'll probably leave the army.' she cried. 'well...we knew it would happen one day. I can hardly be going out on missions with a baby to look after.' I sighed sadly. I wrapped my arms around her, 'Lucy it will all happen to you, you just need to wait for the right time.' I said comfortingly.

Adam and I had bought furniture for most of the rooms in the new house, but were out shopping for things for the baby, 'Adam I'm feeling stressed, the baby's due anytime and we aren't ready.' I wailed, a few shoppers turned around and shot me sympathetic smiles. 'shhh Abby it's fine.' Adam said stroking my head and he pulled me into a hug. 'Adam I'm scared.' I whispered. Adam just rocked me gently 'we will be fine Abby.'
We walked around the shop, Adam pulling a buggy, cot, Moses basket, changing table, baby toys and various pieces of clothing and other essentials into our shopping cart. He had to get someone to help him push it to the checkout because it was so heavy. By the time we had loaded it all into the car it was near midnight. On the drive to the house, I fell asleep out of pure exhaustion. I woke up to a bouncy feeling and realized Adam was carrying me into the house, 'its ok I'm awake.' I mumbled and he slowly put me down.

He spent the next few days frantically assembling baby furniture and two days before I was due he called me in to show me his hard work. I gasped and covered my mouth with my hands. In front of me was a room flooded with light, the walls were a soft pastel pink. There was a cot with a colourful mobile hanging above it in the corner. The changing table was to the side, with the mat on top and nappies and wipes underneath. There was a baby car seat ready in the corner, with clothes on top, to take into hospital with us. Everything was in place and ready for Amelie. I smiled and kissed Adam. He walked away to get something to eat. I walked around, the cot wasn't quite pushed up against the wall, so I padded over and went to push it. I had barely even touched it when I felt something breaking softly within me. 'Adam...' I yelled. 'the baby is coming!'
