Love And War Chpt.60

I wailed as I began to push, crushing Adams hand in mine as pain swept through me. I arched my back and collapsed back down in exhaustion. Adam whispered support in my ear as the nurse told me to push again. 'I can't...I' I exhaled, I was exhausted. 'you can Abby, I believe you can.' Adam said cupping my face. 'I love you Abby.' he pressed his forehead to mine and looked deeply into my eyes. I took his hand and pushed, and after about a minute of pain, we both heard the soft mewing that told us that baby Amelie had just entered the world. I sighed in relief, they took her to clean her off, and Adam went to cut her umbilical cord.
Adam walked back with our precious bundle, wrapped in a pink blanket. 'Abby, say hello to your daughter.' he said with tears of joy running down his face. He passed me the bundle and I pulled back the blankets to look at her face. A cry rose in my throat as I looked at our beautiful child. She had Adams entrancing brown eyes and both of our brown hair that was sticking out in tufts. I stroke a finger against her tiny cheek. 'shes perfect.' I sighed, not taking my eyes of her. 'just like her mum.' Adam whispered. I turned to kiss him, he kissed me back passionately, 'I'm so proud of you Abby.' he said looking deep into my eyes. 'I can't believe I'm a mummy.' I said, my voice cracking as I looked back to our baby. Adam sat beside me on the bed and I rested my head on his shoulder, we both sat and watched Amelie sleep peacefully.
Lucy crept in about an hour later, creeping over quietly so she didn't wake Amelie up. 'oh..' she gasped her hands flying to her mouth 'oh she's so beautiful.' I smiled up at her. 'can I...can I hold her?' she asked transfixed. Once she had sat down i passed my precious baby to her. She smiled down at Amelie, and as the days events caught up with me, exhaustion took over and I slipped into deep sleep. When I awoke I saw Adam rocking Amelie as she bleated softly, 'here.' I said taking her from him, 'she's hungry.' the nurse said as she walked in. 'have you decided how you want to feed her?' she asked, I shook my head 'breast-feeding is best but bottle feeding is more than adequate.' she informed me. I wanted to do everything right for my miracle baby. After I had fed her, she nuzzled into my chest. Adam stroked her head tenderly as she fell asleep.
'you can go home today. When your ready.' the nurse said. I cradled Amelie, while Adam got me her clothes. I lay her gently down on the bed and changed her nappy. Then I slipped her into a white vest and over the top I put her in a baby pink jumpsuit and a little pink hat on her head. Then I fastened her into her carry seat, and covered her in a white blanket. I washed my face and got changed out of the hospital gown and into my own clothes. I came out and Adam had packed up all our stuff and had my bag slung over his shoulder and little Amelie was sleeping in her seat in his hand. As we walked out of the hospital I couldn't help but look over proudly at our little family.
