As I buckled myself in, I gazed out of the small window. Airport staff were riding little carts, going about loading and unloading suitcases. I turned to look over at a young couple opposite us, they were both laughing, the girls head tilted back in ecstasy as her boyfriend nuzzled and kissed her neck. I quickly averted my gaze as every kiss was causing me to slip back into the bleak world Lucy had so recently pulled me from. Amelie gurgled as Lucy tickled her stomach. I smiled down at her carefree, rosy cheeked face, an action that felt so foreign to me that it took me a minute to realize I was actually smiling.

Throughout the flight I had time to plan what to say to Adam and to rest, mentally preparing myself for the next few days events. I drifted off to the excited babble of the passengers. I woke up to Lucy gently shaking me awake, 'we are here' she said excitedly. I rubbed my eyes clearing them from the blur of sleep. Lucy practically skipped to baggage reclaim while I struggled to keep up. We hailed a taxi, Lucy leaning over and informing the driver of my mums address. I could feel my spirits lifting and a nervous flutter developing in my stomach at the prospect of seeing Adam again.

As Lucy dragged our bags up our drive I ran into my mothers arms, burying my head into her hair and breathing in her scent that reminded me of my childhood, she pulled back stroking my face with her hand, 'Abby, I'm so sorry.' she said sadly. Wiping away a stray tear that slipped out of my eye. My dad came out to help Lucy with the bags, mum took Amelie from me while Lucy and I went to our rooms. I glanced around my old room, remembering the last time I was here, I was with Adam. I quickly showered feeling instantly refreshed. Already you could see a change to my appearance, colour came back to my cheeks, my eyes no longer looked dull and my hair shined. Lucy padded into my room, 'ready' she grinned, I nodded determinedly, holding my head high.

I rang the bell at Adams house and after no response, Lucy pushed past me and rapped on the door. I adjusted Amelie on my hip, when the door opened, Adams mum opened the door smiling, which as soon as she saw who it was instantly slid off her face and smashed as it hit the floor. 'expecting someone else.' Lucy smirked, pushing past her into the house.
