I couldn't take my eyes off his face as he drove us home, my smile beamed through all the heartbreak and despair that I had felt. At every traffic light he would lean across, and place a lingering kiss on my lips, leaving them tingling with sensation.
He cooed over Amelie, tickling her feet and making her giggle. Then he stood up straight, 'how did I forget you both.' he said sadly staring at the floor. I lifted his chin with my hand and gently stroked his cheek. I rubbed my thumb gently over the small shiny white line that ran along his temple. The small scar that was a clue to what damage had been done. 'you're here now.' I said and kissed him softly, he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer so I was pressed up against him. I savored the feeling of our closeness, after the months that we had been apart. When we eventually broke apart, he rubbed the back of his neck, as if he were deliberating something. He pulled out a small box, and handed it to me. 'I'm sorry.' he said again. I opened the box and nestled inside was a simple white gold ring, with three small diamonds inlayed into the band. 'Adam...you didn't need to...' he cut me off. 'it's an eternity ring...I promise I'll never leave you again Abby. I love you more than words can do justice. Im so glad that you agreed to marry me and that we have Amelie. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life by your side and I look forward to waking up to your beautiful face each day. Your more than just my soul mate, your my best friend. I love you Abby...' he said, his voice cracking with emotion. I was too moved to speak, I simply stood with tears of happiness rolling down my face as I took in his declaration of pure and undying love for me. I ran into his arms, I simply whispered 'I love you.' over and over until my voice became hoarse.
That night I savored the feel of Adam cradling me to him, holding me so close that I could feel his heartbeat against my chest. I knew that his heart beat for me, as mine did for him.
Adam jumped straight back to being to best daddy that anyone could wish for and an even better husband, it was almost as if he had never been gone. I smiled as I though about him, while washing up, when the phone rang. I panicked as I had a flashback to same scenario that I had been faced with a few months ago. I quickly scolded myself as I knew Adam was safely upstairs with Amelie. I snatched the phone up, 'hello.' I trilled. 'Abby it's Lucy, guess what...'she said excitedly. 'what!' I said back matching her excitement. 'I'm pregnant!'
