Sleep evades me on this fine winter night
The birds outside seem to think it's now sunrise
Haven't they realized
We changed the clock and moved the times?
Or I don't seem to matter to them to much
They can tweet and they'll claim that outside it's still dark
What's that light on the horizon? Oh that's just a late star
G-d forgot to wake him, was to busy scrubbing' mars
So last night it got a little baked,
played the fiddle now it slept in late
Got out in time to say good morning,'
To shine his spark to those still snoring'
The clock hangs peacefully above my beside table
The core of my problems, yet it keeps my life stable
Who would believe that my quiet, peaceful wall plate
Is the world biggest monster when it's a quarter to eight
My cushion's to warm, radiator's to high
Mattress is to soft, I can't close my right eye
The tick tock's to noisy, computer's still humming
In my mind I still hear little brother's drumming
Window's open wide, now it's too cold inside
Dustbin lorries roar will wake the rest of my pride
Raindrops are tapping, hail stones are slappin'
Lightening strikes and the thunder starts clappin'
What's more I'm hungover from the party before
And my nose is still running and throat's feeling soar
And the leak is back at it, and it's ruining my floor
And so I worry now and the sleep evades me more!
Please let me sleep, dear G-D, I need to wake up
And please get that annoying bird to shut up!
All the rest is ok, just part of my imagination
Or perhaps I dreamed it out of total frustration
Whatever the case, I need to sleep now!
Because in 31 minutes the alarm starts that row…
And on that note, I better log off
And give my best shot to try and nod off…
