CHAPTER 2
"Alright," Said Tpek, "We'll discuss this in my room. No need to risk anyone hearing us." As he led me upstairs, into a light, airy but slightly shabby room. For the first time, I got a good look at Tpek's face. Eyes, dark and full of cynicism, looked suspiciously out over a nose that had been broken sometime in the past. Even though he was inside, he had a hood pulled over his head, which put most of his other features in shadow, I did make out a dark smile. Then he moved. The thief spun around, punching my stomach hard, getting behind me and pulling one of my arms up behind my back. I stifled a cry of pain. "Who are you?" Tpek hissed into my ear, "How did you find me?" "My name's Kannec. No one sent me. I came myself." In fact, I was working on someone else's orders, but I needed Tpek's complete trust, and I couldn't let him know the real reason that we wanted him to come with me. Unfortunately, his grip on my arm didn't lessen. "Why have you come to me, me specifically? It must have taken some effort to track me down." He said, still suspicious. "I've tried others," I lied, "But no one else has managed it. You're the best chance I've got." Finally he let go of my arm. "Alright. What is it you need doing?" "There's a prison," I said, still shaken by his attack, "Someone in there is... important to me." "A jailbreak? You found ME for a jailbreak?" Tpek said, as if it sounded too easy. "It's not just a normal city prison," I said, strangely angry at his casual dismissal of my task, "Half the scum on the continent wash up there. Murderers, human traffickers and worse. Have you heard of The Abyss of Khea?" "The Abyss? What had your friend been getting up to?" Tpek seemed more interested now. "I'll do it. Just one more question." "Go on..." "What's the pay?"
P.S. Sorry that it's been a while! I've been a bit distracted lately, but expect the next part within a week!
