27 January 2013
Like an assassin's dagger, lightning flashes to earth, cracking ancient trees and shaking rocks down from the bleak mountains. My forests. My mountains. I won't let them be broken by this storm. Standing on the eons old mound of a long forgotten king, I defy the tempest.
"You can't break me, Storm of storms, nor can you break my lands!" I shout, willing the storm to end.
The thunder sounds like laughter, and the rain pours down even more heavily.
"Begone, Tempest! I will not allow you to destroy this place!" I cry, knowing that the storm will fight me.
A huge lightning bolt, blue as the midday sky, blasts a tree just behind me. Sparks spray over my back, and a firestorm rages behind me.
"I do not fear you!" I shout, over the fire's roar and crackle. "I fear you not!"
The thunder isn't laughing now. It is enraged, trying it utmost to destroy me. My ears pound with the deep, elemental noise of the tempest.
"Leave my home alone!" I demand. "Begone!" I bring the full force of my will to bear, wrestling with the gale's might.
Wind in the mountains shrieks at me, but it sound more like a whine.
"Go!"
The storm begins to fade. I laugh quietly to myself, and walk back down the mound to my green forests. My forests. My mountains. My home.
