He looks out through the window, At the thick flakes coming down, He's just so excited, He dances round and round!

Mummy! Mummy! look outside, He shouts out from upstairs, Everything is bright and white, Whatever shall I wear!

She's busy making breakfast, Her work it never slacks, Too many things to do at once, A lunch she quickly packs.

Then the curtains she does open, To a winter wonderland, Everything was veiled in snow, And now to school he would not go!

Outside he runs so quickly, And gathers up the snow, The body is carved out neatly, Then the head upon it goes!

Two bits of coal he uses, To open up its eyes! The nose he makes from carrot, And with candy makes him smile!

He is so nearly finished now, Just two more things to do, With hat and scarf now in place, He brings his mummy out to view.

He plays all day with his friend, They're having such a ball! He wants to bring his friend inside, But his mum won't have that at all!

Soon it's getting dark outside, And the light is fading fast, He says 'goodnight' to his new friend, And prays their friendship lasts.

He awakens bright and early now next morning, And looks outside with glee, But tears soon fill his eyes, For his friend he couldn't see!

The snow had melted in the night, And things turned back to green, His friend had slowly drifted, And was nowhere to be seen!

Then his mummy quickly put her arms around him, And dried up all his tears, She told him his friend would return, At the same time just next year.

The thought of his friend's return, Then brightened him with cheer, He couldn't wait for time to pass, So that he could hug him dear.
