I see him time
And time again
I know what he sees
And can't stop him
From looking
While the other one looks on
He thinks that I have
Something to give him
So I keep him away
To keep him from hoping
As I love him from a distance
While the other one looks on
Nothing as important
As keeping them separate
His oblivious eyes, crosshairs
Mine, their target
And I sense murderous gaze
While the other one looks on
He is pride
He is strength
And he doesn't yet know the extent
Of the danger
While the other one looks on
Disinterested indifference
I must play the part perfectly
For if he was hurt
I would surely die as well
My casual costume is his protection
From the other one who looks on
