30 September 2012
I lurch through the field, stumbling and tripping,
In my clumsy striped wellies, slipping,
But nothing can prevent me from reaching you,
The air is icy and scented,
Fermented with the rich odour of decomposing leaves,
The wind feels like a wall,
Attempting to make me fall,
Fall backwards with its icy grip- but it wont succeed,
Nothing can prevent me reaching you,
A carpet of leaves, russet, amber, vermillion,
Like a trillion messages on rainbow parchment,
Fingers, gnarled and twisted, reach out to block my path,
Scratching my skin, twining in my hair- but I face their wrath,
Nothing can prevent me reaching you,
Across the field I see you stood,
Shielded from the merciless rain beneath your hood,
Faster I run, faster, I must be with you,
You start toward me- I know you love me too,
Love is like a field, filled with obstacles, rocks and ruts,
Even though you may venture out with bruises and cuts,
Love is all you need to survive...
