Chapter 2
Fallenpaw leaped into the air. The wind blew through his fur. The rush of the water was upon him. Then he rose to the surface. "That leap was great! But try to jump farther!" A voice yowled from behind Fallenpaw. He swam toward the shore. Then climbed up on to the shore and sat beside his mentor. "Can I take a break first?" Falkenpaw panted he had been leaping off the half-bridge since dawn. "You can take a break when you get this right." Rosespots meowed. Fallenpaw flicked his tail with annoyance. "Do you want to be caught by a Twoleg, or a dog, or a Shadowclan cat?" "No...." Fallenpaw sighed. Fallenpaw got up and ran across the half bridge and leaped into the air. He plunged into the water and swam back to the shore. Went he neared Rosespots he gasped "Better?" "Yeah, take a break then we will practice your water battle moves." Rosespots replied. Fallenpaw flopped on the ground. Does she every stop? Fallenpaw wondered. Fallenpaw started to wonder what Moonpaw and Owlfeather were doing. He wished he had a different mentor, like Minnosplash, or Creekwhisker. He knew if Minnosplash was his mentor he would be battle training and patrolling most of the time. If Creekwhisker was his mentor he would be exploring and hunting and eating most of the time. Neither have an apprentice, but Fallenpaw knew how they trained for their old apprentices Otterfur and Mossclaw. Maybe Otterfur and Mossclaw were even better mentors than Rosespots. I won't be a mentor like Rosespots. Fallenpaw promised himself. "Ok break over. Time to work on battle moves." Rosespots meowed and walked into the lake. Fallenpaw followed her with a groan. "Ok let's say I'm a Shadowclan warrior attacking you in the water. Attack me." Fallenpaw leaped at Rosespots, but the water dragged his paws down and landed a tail length in front of her. Rosespots whipped around and splashed water in Fallenpaw's face. Blinking water out of his eyes he swung his paws at her. Rosespots dodged by swiftly moving around his clumsy attacks. Then with all the confusion of moving around and water in his eyes, Fallenpaw lost track of Rosespots. Fallenpaw started to wildly turn around and slashing at nothing. Then he felt a strong force push him under water. Fallenpaw tried to get up, but something was holding him down. He twisted and turned, but could wriggle out from under the weigh. A heartbeat or more later the weigh was lifted off him and he rose to the surface. Rosespots was standing beside him. "Are you trying to kill me?!?!" Fallenpaw gasped. Rosespots looked calm as ever and simply replied. "If I was, you would be dead." Fallenpaw blinked at what she said and thought about it. "How about we try again?" Rosespots suggested. Fallenpaw nodded and attacked her again.
