Here are the first two chapters in a novel that I'm writing called "Zella", which is the name of the main character. It is a book written in poems. Enjoy!

I: Flames

My house is gone Consumed in flames I don't know what happened I'm not naming names

But there was sudden heat And screams of fright I shot out of my bed For it was late in the night

I run to my door To find it locked I jump out the window And find my world rocked

My house is burnt up How can this be? Everything was fine Is this really what I see?

I run to the stream No time to find out If my parents are still alive But they're dead, no doubt

My life is in ruins In front of my face And how this could've happened I cannot place

I look in the water And see someone unknown I stop to wonder About the face I have been shown

II: Charred

Can it be? The girl I see Is really me?

Black as coal Burning whole Seemingly droll

I run away No time to stay And no delay

I feel it dear The end is near The future clear

I find a lawn My life is gone And here comes dawn
