This is a bit different, I must say. But I have been a 9gagger over a year now, and these are my views upon the web page of memes and comics:
This site promotes people to share their quirkiness or differences, helping them see that they are not alone in the most common of things. Like, per say, trying to keep the light switch between on and off.
People can share their artwork or humor to a large audience and receive feedback, like drawings or new memes.
People can take a face and laugh at the caption but not the face itself: the memes provide a anonymity to certain types of emotions or people, so everyone can relate.
9gag teaches that an opinion is not racist, sexist or perverted, but an opinion, and people can respond to opinions in an open manner, like the Internet should be; open.
You can relate to each meme and you feel like you are part of a global society.
You can enjoy others failures by laughing with them and not at them.
There is a lot of shit on 9gag, but it is no worse at filtering than Google, Facebook, or porn. Everything goes, like an open community should be.
All in all, the only negative effect you can get from 9gag is addiction to it. It's a harmless and fun-loving society of teens and young adults like yourself who all have a voice and a little man inside their head waiting to embarrass themselves for the fun of others. 9gag is great.
