Ring ring ring.
The phone rang out,
Echoing through the house like a band of bellowing drums.
"No one picked up."
Ring ring ring.
"And again father, no one picked up."
"Try a third!"
Ring ring ring.
"That was thrice. No one answered, they must not be home father."
"They are home."
"But they didn't ans-"
"THEY ARE HOME I SAID! I'm sure of it-"
"Why aren't they answering then father? Answer me that!"
"Maybe we should try that bar they were at last night again. Hmm?"
"Yes father, here's the number."
The dialling tone sounded as Mr Young lifted the 1930's receiver from its place, and dialled.
555-4568-1530
"Yes, Hello is that Mr Knightley? This is Mr Young of Checkson house"
"It is, what is this regarding Mr Young?"
"My son called earlier, do you know of a Miss Price and Mr Jeffries, they were at your bar last night and they haven't returned home. I was wondering if you knew where they are?"
"Like I told your son, I don't know where your friends are. I'm sorry, if I hear anything I'll give you a call. Goodbye sir."
The phone was put down abruptly.
"Where could they be?"
"I don't know father, here, I fetched the paper when you were on the phone."
Mr Young unfolds the daily mail, and starts to read the front page.
'Tax rises cause strikes in Hackney areas.'
'Local man and woman found in water taxi'
Mr Young reads on.
'Around 10pm May 4th, local police officer, Pc. Jones witnessed a rogue taxi driver with two passengers, later to be identified as Miss D Price and Mr H Jeffries, intentionally drove head on towards an opening in the hand rail of the Galton bridge, the car flew almost 10 metres before pulmitting into the freezing cold minus 4•C water.'
"Oh No!!!"
"what's happened father?!?!"
"I fear that Delilah and Harold may be dead or very severely injured. Let me read on."
'Pc. Jones called the fire brigade, ambulance and backup police officers after the horror of what he had just witnessed. Once the services had arrived everything was done to save and resuscitate the 2 victims, but unfortunately Miss D Price and Mr H Jeffries are presently deceased, the taxi driver was later caught and has a court date assigned for May 9th, members of the public are welcome.'
"They are dead."
